Three Days In The Life Of A Work Experience Student
Rory, a Year 10 student, shares his enriching work experience at C4B over three days.
On his first day at our marketing agency, he joined team meetings, learned about marketing strategies and explored client projects. The second day involved hands-on learning with the company’s digital tools and a deep dive into email marketing. Rory’s final day featured a website planning session and design work with Canva, culminating in a company strategy meeting.
Monday 8th July
Monday, my first day at C4B and it was a very exciting time. I arrived at 9:30 am and was warmly welcomed by everyone on the team. I was given my plan for the week, which included what I was going to be doing and with whom. After looking through my plan, there was breakfast for me and the team in the meeting room, before the Weekly Team Meeting. Team members who weren’t in the office joined via teams and everyone went through their weekly plan and what they had to do this week. After everyone had spoken, Will, the Senior Marketing Executive from the team, gave a talk that included a few tips and tricks he had found to help the team when they are using LinkedIn, which everyone found useful.
After the Weekly Team Meeting, I had some time with Jane, the Director of Marketing Services. She showed me how the business works and explained everyone’s role. Jane also introduced me to the projects I would be doing throughout the week. I then had time to research and review an existing client’s website, identifying the positives and negatives of their site. I also compared their website to competitors in their industry to see if I could see where they are excelling but also see where they could improve.
After lunch, I spent some time with Connor, the Digital Marketing Coordinator. After sharing the details of his role with me, Connor then helped me plan my project work and gave me advice on how to make my video the best it could be. This really helped me.
After my useful time with Connor, I had some time with Sharon which I found incredibly interesting. Sharon and I walked around Royston and she showed me some real-life work that C4B had done for and around the town. This included some signage and some logos for businesses.
Back in the office, Sharon shared more work C4B had done, which consisted of leaflets, books and posters.
After that, Will came in and showed me his planner, what his job consists of and how he keeps everything organised. I was then able to listen in on a bit of work that they were doing, which was cool to see how they interacted and worked side by side with their clients.
Finally, I had a short time to reflect on the work I had done and talk over any queries that I had with Jane. My first day at C4B was interesting and I found it very enjoyable.
Tuesday 9th July
On Tuesday, I sat down with Jane and Project Coordinator, Peter, to discuss how we thought my first day went. I then got a quick briefing from Jane about the day ahead and what I was going to be doing.
I then went into the meeting room and Peter showed how he uses the contact management system for day-to-day use and how it helps him improve his job and makes his job easier. I thought this was very useful and may help me improve my work when I get back to JT Cranes.
Before lunch, I had some time to myself to work on my video project and my blog. During my lunch break, I went out to explore Royston and I went to the High Street and saw the umbrellas hanging from the top of the streets.
Once back, I had a call with Will to discover how he uses their email platform and how it can make his job much easier. He showed me his setup and the email templates that he uses to help make sending emails easier and how to remove mistakes when he sends them to his clients. My call with Will was very informative and helped me understand his role in the business much easier.
Following this, I had some time to myself where I went over my work from the last days two days and made sure that it was all ok.
On my lunch break, I was also able to take a video for my project which I planned to use for the introduction.
Wednesday 10th July
On Wednesday, I arrived at C4B at 9.30 am and joined a meeting that some of the team were engaged in. The meeting was to help start planning a new website for a client. I found the meeting very helpful and enjoyable because I could see how some of the background work happens and how they communicate with each other. The different team members use their expertise to help pull together and make the brand-new website.
After the meeting, I had some time with Richard – a Designer. We went through Canva and he showed me how to improve my skills, which I have found very useful and will help me back at JT Cranes.
I then had some time to myself to do some work on Canva and review my blog and video.
After this, it was time for C4B’s monthly strategy meeting, where everyone came into the meeting room to share the goals and aims for the business over the next 6 months and check the goals that they had set previously.
I was able to relax at lunch before I had a big chunk of time to finish my project work before sending it to Jane to check over.
Finally, I would just like to say how kind, hardworking and welcoming everyone was as C4B and how enjoyable they made my time. Everyone was welcoming and always had a smile on their face.
Thank you, Rory, for spending your work experience with us at C4B. We enjoyed having you and wish you all the best in your future!
